The Dolomites in Italy have always been on my list of places to visit. I was lucky enough to join a small group of photographers traveling to Italy to photograph Venice and the Dolomites in October. We stayed in Venice a few days then drove up to the Dolomites. Expecting fall foliage I was somewhat surprised to find ourselves in a winter blizzard. Our Italian driver, Paolo, had to make several detours through the mountains as a few of the passes were closed. When things settled down a bit weather-wise we were able to get in some spectacular sunrises and sunsets. Hiking was limited because of the snow but we still managed to find some nice locations to shot. I now know that I need to come back and spend at least a month in the Dolomites to see them properly.
