Elk Rut in Rocky Mountain National Park near Estes Park, Colorado

After spending over two weeks in Jackson, Wyoming I headed to Estes Park, Colorado to see if I could catch the tail end of the elk rut in Rocky Mountain National Park. I got very lucky because there were many elk in the area – bull elks and harems. Getting up very early to hear the bull elk bugling each morning is an amazing experience. The last time I was in Rocky Mountain National Park I hiked at 9,000 feet on snow covered trails. This time the trails were not very snowy, but the hiking was just as beautiful. I need to come back to this National Park in the early spring. If you have never witnessed the elk mating season, autumn in Estes Park, Colorado is a must for everyone.

I was testing out my new Nikon D850 camera so I did some very early morning photography and night photography. I still find the Nikon D5 the best camera for night photography but I will keep testing the D850. Below are some samples of the night sky above Rocky Mountain National Park.
